Tuning your ukulele
- 1
Allow microphone access and hold the ukulele near your device.
- 2
Pluck the G string (the one closest to your chin) and let it ring.
- 3
Tighten if the needle is to the left (flat), loosen if it's to the right (sharp), until it turns green.
- 4
Repeat for C, E and A. New nylon strings stretch a lot, so expect to retune often for the first few days.

Questions & troubleshooting
- What are the notes of the ukulele strings?
- Standard ukulele tuning is G C E A, starting from the string closest to your face. A popular way to remember it is “My Dog Has Fleas”.
- Why is the G string higher than the C string?
- Standard ukulele tuning is re-entrant: the G is tuned above middle C rather than below it. That's what gives the ukulele its bright, chimey sound. Low G tuning puts it an octave lower instead.
- Why won't my ukulele stay in tune?
- New nylon and fluorocarbon strings keep stretching for days. Tune up, gently pull each string away from the fretboard, retune, and repeat. It settles after a few days of playing.
